Obidient Movement Reaffirms Loyalty to Otti, Nenadi Usman Faction

The Labour Party’s internal crisis took another twist as Peter Obi’s supporters publicly rejected a reconciliation meeting between his former running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, and Julius Abure’s faction. The Obidient Movement, led by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, declared unwavering allegiance to Abia Governor Alex Otti and the Nenadi Usman-led caretaker committee, dismissing any ties to Abure’s camp.

“We Stand with Obi, Not Abure” – Obidient Leader

Tanko clarified that while Datti attended the Abuja meeting, he did so independently, and key Obidient figures present were merely observers. “We are resolute—wherever Peter Obi goes, we follow,” he stated, denying any rift between Obi and Datti. The movement insists its loyalty lies solely with Otti’s faction, which it considers the legitimate leadership.

Datti Plays Peacemaker, But Will It Work?

During the contentious gathering, Datti acknowledged Abure as INEC-recognized chairman but stressed his role as a mediator, not an endorser. “I’m here to reconcile, not to defect,” he said, urging unity ahead of 2027. However, Abure’s recent closed-door meeting with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has fueled skepticism about his intentions.

Abure’s Olive Branch: Return or Remain Outcast?

Defending his legitimacy, Abure invited dissenting members to “sheath their swords” and rejoin his leadership, dismissing rival factions as “illegal.” Yet, with Obi’s camp doubling down on Otti’s side, the Labour Party’s future hangs in the balance—will peace prevail, or will the divide deepen?
