RABAT — Nigeria’s world record holder Tobi Amusan has smashed the Rabat Diamond League meet record in the women’s 100 metres hurdles. Punch confirmed the performance on Monday. Amusan clocked 12.71 seconds to win the event and set a new meeting record, further extending her dominance of the global hurdles circuit.

The performance in Rabat follows Amusan’s gold medal at the 2026 African Athletics Championships in Accra where she won in 12.83 seconds. She is now the standout favourite for the World Athletics Championships later in 2026 after this latest world-class performance.

Amusan said after the race that she is in the best shape of her career. She said her preparation has been meticulous and that she is building toward peak performances at the major championships. She thanked her coaching staff, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, and her sponsors for the unwavering support.

World Record Holder in Form

Amusan holds the world record in the 100m hurdles with 12.12 seconds, set at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. Her consistency at the top of global hurdles rankings since that record has made her one of the most reliable medal prospects in Nigerian athletics history.

Her Diamond League form this season gives her a strong path to the Diamond Trophy at the end of the season. The Diamond Trophy is awarded to the athlete with the most points across the season’s Diamond League meetings. Amusan’s Rabat win is a significant points haul.

The combination of their performances in the same season is the most exciting Nigerian athletics story in a generation.
