Former Lagos State Governor and ex Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, has said he is not interested in contesting for the presidency, dismissing speculation linking him with a 2027 presidential bid.
Fashola made the declaration during an interview on TVC, where he was asked directly whether he would contest for president. His response was a simple, direct “No.”
Pressed further on whether he was considering the presidency, Fashola replied with a smile, saying he was satisfied with his current life and had no intention of seeking Nigeria’s highest political office.
Fashola has remained a prominent figure in Nigerian politics since leaving office, with his name periodically surfacing in speculation about future political ambitions given his profile within the ruling All Progressives Congress.
His comments add clarity to the emerging field of political figures ahead of the 2027 election, as parties continue finalising their candidate lists across various levels of government.
Political observers say Fashola’s firm denial removes one name from ongoing speculation about potential APC contenders, even as the party has already confirmed its Tinubu Shettima ticket for the presidential race.
