Cubana Chief Priest Loses APC Reps Primary in Imo

The Cubana chief Priest, Pascal Okechukwu has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) Primary Election to fight him way into the House of Representatives in Imo State. The election on Saturday foiled his bid for the seat of the Orsu, Orlu and Oru East Federal constituency.

The socialite was a popular choice and had already made his intention to run for the position known months ago. He had a huge social media following and was a celebrity when he entered the race. That’s what delegates at Saturday’s primary opted to do, however.

The results of the primary election in Imo State was confirmed by the APC officials. Cubana Chief Priest has yet to issue a statement to the public about the loss on Sunday morning. His followers started to gripe on social media about him.

The Imo APC result is one of several results that came out of Saturday’s national primary exercise. The APC has started its official nomination of candidates for the 2027 general elections, conducting the Primaries for the 360 seats in the House of Representatives across the country.

A tough political lesson

Cubana Chief Priest’s losing to the proof that name recognition does not always translate to political success. It’s not the first that a lot of politicians in Nigeria (which have been in public service and social media space) have encountered in recent elections in the country.

Political analysts say the delegation of primary politics is one way to work toward reaching others with clear party organization and grassroot support. A positive reputation in the community could help raise the profile of a candidate but this would be a welcome addition to political activities at ward and local government levels.

Moreover, the main activity that the APC carried out was to screen of the aspirants to ensure compliance with party rules. The party’s national secretariat also mentioned some candidates in different states who were put as ‘not cleared’ prior to the exercise.

Wider Primary Fallout

In Niger, the winners and losers of the different relationships were decided during the primary elections by the APC. During the Federal Constituency primary in Jos South and Jos East, Plateau State, thugs interfered with the counting of votes in the RCM Primary School, Jos South. The party leaders condemned the trouble.

Meanwhile, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu won his ticket unopposed in the primary election of Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State. The exercise was mostly peaceful in most states, party officials said.

INEC has fixed May 30, 2026, as the deadline for completion of primaries for the political parties. The electoral commission has warned it will not accept nominations from parties if they are late. The time limits for all primaries are to be finished within the approved time frame.
